An oasis of light in a sea of darkness(Revised)

Living in an underground city to many seems exciting while for others it can be a real pain in the neck due to the fact is your resources are limited. For the people who lived in the underground city of Ember they were told by “The Builders” that their city shall last for 300 years. But only 281 years in many citizens of the city notices some dramatic changes. Such as constant blackouts that happen at such a fast pace. Then there are the food shortages and while some citizens think it’s something minor they shall soon realize that their deathtrap is preparing their coffins. For 2 citizens of the city they both realize something worse is going to happen but many question how to get out of a city that is surrounded by a sea of darkness?

The question is when your living in a society that is crumbling what more can you do? For sure you know not to go to the government due to the fact that the governments corruption will not do you any good. The next problem is that where can you go. Nothing beyond the city limits but complete darkness that can be filled with who knows what may be out there from monstrous creatures that may be who knows how big- to possibly trenches that may go on forever. But one things for certain. When death puts the squeeze on you, you will be lucky if you can find a way out of your situation. Ever since the beginning of time many people from explores to native tribes have always looked to the heavens to find the answer to their situations. but for the people of the underground city of Ember there's nothing more than 360 degrees of darkness and so no choice but to surrender and fall victim to death. All the chaos and Pandemonium of this irony was something that would drive everybody either insane or mad.

The only thing the people who lived in the city of Ember had hope for one thing and that was the river. ember had an underground city that was fast flowing and deep and so the murky depths would provide a great shelter in case the city does go black. Even the workers of the city who job was to keep the city up and running couldn't do anything about their situation and so they knew they were sitting ducks. Another thing that did keep the hopes up of the people was an citywide event called "The Singing". The singing was basically celebrating the birth of the city by having every citizen sing the three great songs of the city. This was technically like a country devoting a day to singing their national anthem. But not even an event like this could boost the morale of the citizens as they struggled for sanity and life.

All hope was lost. Many citizens thought they could never escape the underground city that was their tomb. Death was imminent and there's absolutely no hope at all. And so the final option for the citizens was to just lay down and die unless.........
